Sunday4 March: C walk about 8.5 miles and 650ft ascent west of Malpas
Starting in the centre of Malpas (toilet usually open) we head out past the church and across fields onto quiet lanes and tracks NW of the village. We descend the Roman route of Kidnal Hill and pass beneath Overton Scar. More field paths bring us to the Bishop Bennett trackway to Chorlton .There is one small, awkward, churned up pony paddock before the grounds of Cherryhill, one of several historic houses en route. Underfoot, the walk is generally satisfactory for the season and has about 10 stiles. Although it has no significant ascents poles could be useful, especially for a half a mile stretch walking along a valley slope.
