The Oakmere Way and Delamere Forest: about 9 miles with 750ft ascent
The route is a figure of 8 beginning at Gresty’s Waste and passing Delamere Station twice. Most of the walk is on forest tracks and the bridleway above the sand quarry, with only 3or 4 stiles. Given the current level of the water table, some muddy gateways and sections of track are inevitable. It includes a mile of public road and is generally gently undulating with a steady ascent up Eddisbury Hill towards the end. Weather permitting, there is an option to visit the hill fort on its summit.
