Sunday 19th January

Chirk Castle, Afon Ceiriog and Chirk Aqueduct.

From Chirk car park we head along Station Avenue to a wooded area near the railway station. From the wood we cross a field and a lane to reach more pasture land. We ascend and descend to reach the Castle car park. Picking up Offa’s Dyke Path we continue ascending and descending (gentle) to cross a busy road and border into Shropshire. (Plaque on bridge commemorates the Battle of Crogen). Following a minor road we reach Pentre Woods and follow the river Ceiriog. A minor road wood and pastureland lead us to the Chirk Aqueduct. Optional route via tunnel (head torch/phone torch) required.

Distance: 8 miles

Total accumulated ascent: 1200 feet.
